Law Made in Germany is an initiative to promote the use of German law in international commercial contracts. This initiative is largely a reaction to a similar initiative of the Law Society in England & Wales.
The initiative is organizing a symposium in Frankfurt on September 4, 2014. One of the topics will be the use of English in German courts, a topic which we have covered here in the past – and that is adding an element which so far has been somewhat lacking: Law Made in Germany has so been stressing the advantages of the German substantive law, but had not, in my view, given sufficient weight to the issue of dispute resolution. I believe that to most parties, governing law and dispute resolution, i.e. the enforcement of the chosen law, are part of a package. Here is a link to the Programme (in German).
